Larry Jack’s Magical Music Tour (10/8-10/15)

Hey guys,

I really hope some of y’all listened to me and made it out to see some live music last week.  I caught several very good shows.  Some standouts were Epic Cycle played one of their best shows ever at the Bayou last week, with guests Deric Murphy and Dr. Dan (of the Looters).  Dr. Dan seems to really bring out the best in his musicians.  Just like I thought, the weekend had tons of good music.  Eric Sommer at Abe’s On Lincoln and Niche at The Jinx  were especially good shows.  And I got to see three of Savannah’s best bands on Saturday, Bottles & Cans at Social (with plenty of erotically-costumed people, for some reason) and the Acccomplices/ Train Wrecks show at the Jinx.

Enough talking about last week, time to post the list/recommendations for this week.  Two shows to make sure to see this week are The Jinx’s 10th Anniversary on Thursday and The Stattsfest at Muse Arts Warehouse on Sunday.

Tuesday 10/8

Joe Nelson at Foxy Loxy (8pm) – Another good show at Foxy Loxy.

Thursday 10/10 – A very busy night

J.J. Grey & Mofro and the Dirty Guv’nahs at Lucas (8pm)

Sweet Tease Burlesque, American Aquarium, and Murder By Death at Jinx 10th Anniversary – This show is not to be missed, two great bands.  I will be headed here after the J.J. Grey show.

Omingnome at Zunzi’s 2 (9:30-12:30) – I hope to sneak over here between sets at the Jinx.

Friday 10/11

Train Wrecks at Rail Pub (6pm) – I haven’t seen a band in the new courtyard at Rail Pub

City Hotel at Moon River Brewery (6-9p)

Waits & Co. at Blowin’ Smoke (7pm)

Versatile at Congress Street Social Club (10pm) – Good R&B music.

Hypnotics at Molly MacPherson’s (10pm) – Two man band that plays originals and garage rock covers.

Passafire, Bear Fight!, and Ballyhoo at Jinx (10p) – Bear Fight! is pretty heavy.  Seems like an odd combination with Passafire, but could be interesting.

More listings after the jump:

Saturday 10/12

March Against Monsanto at Johnson Square (12n) – Miggs Son Daddy, Xuluprophet, and Omingnome will be performing.  May as well start the day early.

Cigar Box Guitars at Dub’s (6pm) – A benefit for the Ships Of The Sea Museum.  The guitarists are Georgia Kyle, Roy Swindell, and Mark Murphy.  I have been looking forward to this show since I first saw it announced a few months ago.

Charlie Fog Band at Molly MacPherson’s (10pm) – Grateful Dead cover band.  I will probably check them out before the show at the Jinx starts.

City Hotel and. Joe Nelson with James Pittman at Jinx (10pm) – This will be a good show of old-time bluegrass music.  It should be lots of fun.

Sunday 10/13

StattsFest at Muse Arts Warehouse [703 Louisville Rd]  (2p-8p) – KidSyc@Brandywine, Train Wrecks, Damon & The Shitkickers, Bottles & Cans, and Joe Nelson.  Emceed by Basik Lee.  A benefit for Jason Statts.  Everyone should go!
