New Music Monday – 11/6/17

And we’re back with another weekly post with new music. Today’s post features:

  • OCS
  • Chew
  • Contributors
  • Converge
  • Triathalon

OCS, aka Thee Oh Sees
San Fransisco, CA
“Nite Expo” from Orc out now on Castle Face Records.

Thee Oh Sees Orc is easily one of my favorite guitar records of the year. Put simply, it totally shreds. Here’s a new weirdo psychedelic video for Nite Expo. Seriously, check out Orc if you dig this song.

Chew
ATL, GA
“Crunchy” off of A Fine Accoutrement out now on Stolen Body Records.
Atlanta’s hard touring instrumental rock weirdos Chew are promising a darker record than the last, and I see it a bit in this tune, which leans a bit on the prog side of rock. Don’t be afraid, though, it’s the rocking side of prog, not the nerdy, wimpy side (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Contributors
Austin, TX
“Dome” from Contributor, which is out November 17 on Monofonus Press.
Austin art punks Spray Paint team up with Dan Melchior, and the result is Contributors. Imagine Joy Division’s Ian Curtis fronting “Down By the River” Neil Young and Crazy Horse and that will get you in the ballpark of what this sounds like. Sorta.

Converge
Boston, MA
The Dusk In Us out now on Epitaph Records

It’s hard to mention the history of metalcore and music and not mention Converge in the same breath as well. The seminal hardcore band has been around since the early 90’s and their newest release in 5 years, The Dusk In Us, shows how much the band has evolved while still staying true to their roots. They’re still just as heavy and emotional as they’ve always been and I can’t get enough. ~ Petey

Triathalon
NY by way of Savannah, GA
“Day One”

If you’ve been in Savannah for the last 5 or so years, you know what Triathalon is all about. Chill, ambient, R&B tracks with layers of guitar effects sprinkled on top. Their latest track, “Day One”, continues that trend, if leaning a bit more towards the ambient indie rock side as opposed to the R&B that they’ve been known for before. ~ Petey
