New Music Monday – 7/18/16

The sultry Savannah summer continues, and we’ve got some especially steamy new music this week. Enjoy.

Against Me!
Gainesville, FL
“333” off Shape Shift With Me, due from the band’s label Total Treble on 9/16

What the world needs now is a new album from Against Me! “All the devils that you don’t know can all come along for the ride.” – bill

.
Triathalon
Savannah
“I Want It” off the upcoming EP Cold Shower due out 9/16

Some addictive new beats from the understated outfit that arose from the DIY scene here in Savannah. – bill

.
Lydia Loveless
Coshocton, Ohio
“Longer” off Real due 8/19 on Bloodshot Records

Tarot cards, cheese balls, bad art, a secret lover, vintage paperbacks — what more could one want in this video for a catchy new love song from Lydia Loveless, who obviously has no reason to get out of bed. I can’t wait to hear the whole record. – bill

.
Angel Olsen
Asheville, NC
“Shut Up Kiss Me” off My Woman coming 9/2 on Jagjagwar

I like flawed indie pop, and something about the chorus of this otherwise pretty tune strikes me as rushed and slightly off, pretty much ensuring that I’ll dig it, and dig it I do. – Tom

.
Red Fang
Portland, OR
“Flies” from 10/14 Relapse Records release Only Ghosts

Straight up PBR soaked, hook laden, heavy rock from the masters of just that. No huge changes in sound, just staying the course, which is perfect if you’re headed the right way to start with. – Tom

.
Banks and Steelz
NYC
“Giant” off the upcoming full length Anything But Words due August 26.

Does anyone think that a joint between Wu-Tang’s RZA and Interpol’s Paul Banks sounds like a good idea? Apparently they don’t care, and the album’s on the way, featuring Florence Welch, Kool Keith, Method Man and Masta Killa. I’m not sure how it will hold up in long form, but this song works surprisingly well. – Tom

.
Cinemechanica
Athens, GA
“Vietnamese Pool Party” from their upcoming self titled long player due Sept. 23 on Arrowhawk Records

Post hardcore? Math rock? Post rock? Who cares, it’s more technical insanity from Cinemechanica, who is now bringing Lazer/Wulf”s Bryan Aiken along for the ride. Try to keep up with your headbanging. – Tom
