If you’ve been to Stopover before, the most interesting addition to the lineup might by the second floor of Wild Wing Cafe in City Market. Wild Wing books a fair number of bands and occasionally has some really interesting acts, but it’s not typically the type of indie venue that we cover. But there’s a good stage, good sound, and a lot of room up there — and it’s really close to other key venues including Club One, The Jinx, Hang Fire, Moon River, and Trinity United Methodist Church.

We’ve previously talked about how interesting it is to see Trinity as a Stopover venue. Again, great room, great acoustics, and definitely a space that can handle large numbers. It is a church and there will be pews, so it’s not your typical rock club — it will be interesting to see how bands and fans negotiate the space. No booze will be allowed in the church, but attendees of shows at Trinity will be able to buy drinks at the Jepson Center across the street, and drinking outdoors from plastic cups is legal around Telfair Square as it is around all of this year’s venues. By the way, there are three really strong Trinity headliners that should sound great in that room: Hiss Golden Messenger (3/5), Rocco DeLuca (3/6) and San Fermin (3/7).

The annual band poster exhibition and contest will be held during a special Art On Tap event at the Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center for the Arts from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, 3/6.

Six new bands have also been added to the lineup. Sonicbids was used to award Stopover slots to Penicillin Baby (Nashville), Hare and The Hounds (Atlanta), Weather (Brooklyn) and The Kickback (Chicago). Host (formerly Ugly Hussy) from Savannah has been added to the Furious Hooves showcase at Ampersand on Saturday. Justin Collins (Nashville), best known as producer of Deer Tick and others, has a debut album in the works.

UPDATE: Stopover noted that there would be a special guest at Trustees Garden performing just before Southern Culture on the Skids on opening night — that guest has been reveal as Turbo Fruits, an awesome band that we can’t wait to see again.

One of our favorite things about Stopover is the chance to wander with no clear plan from venue to venue. If you love live music, it’s hard to go wrong even if you don’t preview any of the acts or make a schedule for yourself.

But if you do have specific bands or styles in mind, you are going to be faced with some difficult choices.

For example, at 11 p.m. on 3/5, you can see Alanna Royale at The Jinx, Avers at Wild Wing, Cobalt Cranes at Hang Fire, and Hiss Golden Messenger at Trinity. I’d really like to see all four of those bands, but that will likely be impossible (though, maybe, you know?).

On 3/6, the tough choices begin early and continue right through the night, with up to five bands beginning simultaneously. At 7 p.m., for example, there’s a secret show, Christopher Paul Stelling, Jack + Eliza, Music Band, and The Prettiots. Yep, I’d like to see all of them too.

That final 12:30 a.m. slot on Friday night is tough one too: All Them Witches and Reptar.

Ditto for Saturday, with touch decisions all day (Savannah’s Black Water Choir takes the stage at Ampersand at 2 p.m. for the Furious Hooves showcase, and at 3 p.m. there are five acts performing around town) and night. The final midnight slot on Saturday, 3/7 is a tough one too, with Computer Magic at Club One, Diarrhea Planet at The Jinx, French Horn Rebellion at Hang Fire, and Mothxr at Wild Wing. Meanwhile, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires will be about halfway through a blistering set at Congress Street Social Club.

We’ll have some previews and such over the next month here at hissing lawns, and there will be lots of coverage in Do Savannah and Connect Savannah
