with the new year, lots of festival announcements in the Southeast

We’ve got a couple of big “pre-game” Savannah Stopover gigs coming up fast, plus the announcement of the rest of the 3-day fest’s lineup. We’ve got A-Town Get Down coming soon, and the Savannah Music Festival.

But we’re also in the midst of festival announcements from all over the country.

Here’s a roundup of a few from the Southeast, with links. I can’t possibly include everything, so if there’s a festival you’re excited about, please share in the comments here or comment on the hissing lawns Facebook page.

You probably already know about Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta. Organizers have now come up with a second festival on the following weekend that will be devoted to country acts: Shaky Boots Festival.

It’s an impressive lineup for country fans:

The SweetWater 420 Fest also has a pretty awesome lineup in Atlanta this spring (announcement was in mid-December):

I’ll admit that I was a little underwhelmed by the recent announcement of the Spoleto U.S.A. lineup in Charleston in late spring. I was also underwhelmed by the return of a Spoleto policy with a 2-week donor pre-sale for those who’ve donated over $100. I’ve probably spent $1000 on Spoleto tickets in the last 5 or 6 years, but I have to wait two weeks or donate if I want choice seats? The Savannah Music Festival simply holds some seats back for major donors, which seems to work fine and doesn’t seem likely to piss people off.

Several acts familiar to Savannah audiences are booked for Spoleto this year, including Dianne Reeves, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, and St. Paul & The Broken Bones. There are some other really exciting things in the lineup, including — as usual — intriguing offerings in dance, opera, and physical theatre.

CounterPoint Music Festival has early bird tickets on sale now and will announce the lineup on 1/15.

Welcome to Rockville Festival in Jacksonville in April has some crazy fun in store.

Not my thing (although I’d love to see Die Antwoord), but Ultra Music Festival announced in Miami has just announced the lineup.
